Patrick Carpentier will return to NASCAR this weekend in the No. 32 FAS Lane Racing Ford at Kansas Speedway. The Canadian driver, who now lives in Las Vegas, confirmed that he will compete in his first Sprint Cup Series race of 2011 on Sunday at the 1.5-mile track.

1961: In his 31st start, David Pearson wins his first Cup race in convincing fashion. Pearson takes the checkered flag in the World 600 at Charlotte by more than two laps over Fireball Roberts. Rex White finishes third, three laps back. Pearson finishes his career with 105 Cup wins, second only to Richard Petty's 200.

Drivers team with Lionel to honor 9/11 victims, heroes
CONCORD, N.C. -- Lionel NASCAR Collectables, in partnership with the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, on Thursday unveiled a multi-car, on-track program that pays tribute to the 10th anniversary of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and helps raise funds to build homes for the only three surviving quadruple amputees of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan -- United States Army Spc. 1959: Glen Wood wins a 200-lap Convertible Series race at Bowman-Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. It is his fifth and final victory in the series. It also is his only convertible win at the quarter-mile track, a contrast to his success in the Cup Series -- all four of his Cup wins came at Bowman-Gray.
